RENOLIT DELIVERS A ROOFING MASTERCLASS TO NEW SOUTH CHESHIRE COLLEGE BUILDING

RENOLIT, the market leading manufacturer of single ply roofing membrane, has recently supplied a range of its products for use on the new South Cheshire College building in Crewe. The products were selected to achieve a striking architectural finish, combined with long lasting weather-tight performance and environmental benefits.

Manufactured using highly durable and hard wearing plasticized PVC, RENOLIT’s range of single ply roofing products are available in a variety of finishes to achieve almost any architectural roofing design.
RENOLIT’s ALKORBRIGHT, ALKORDESIGN and ALKORGREEN products were installed on the roof of South Cheshire College, to help achieve a modern feel whilst delivering a fully waterproof roof surface that, in areas fitted with ALKORBRIGHT, is able to reflect up to 98% of sunlight.
Gordon Harris, Chairman of roofing contractor Advanced Roofing, commented, “Having used RENOLIT’s range of single ply roofing solutions for around 15 years, we are aware of its aesthetic advantages and its installation benefits. The system is easy to install which meant we were able to fit six different membranes on the new college roof, helping to generate greater architectural interest. In addition to its aesthetic advantages, the RENOLIT system provides a completely waterproof roofing material that, when compared to alternative materials, is far more cost effective and longer lasting.”
The new campus building, which is due to open in September, has been designed to bring cutting edge architecture and state of the art educational facilities together. As such, a durable roofing material was required to bring a long lasting and aesthetically interesting finish to the prestigious new building.
Phil Tait, Managing Director of Archwise Systems, explains, “We chose to use RENOLIT’s standard light reflective roofing product ALKORBRIGHT due to its ability to reduce the building’s solar gain, and as such, reduce the mechanical cooling technology required to maintain the interior environment at a comfortable temperature. We put forward the ALKORDESIGN copper effect system and ALKORGREEN roof system as a more suitable solution for the proposed application. The ALKORDESIGN copper coloured membrane is finished with the standing seam effect profile and provides an extremely realistic alternative to more expensive copper based roofing products and the detail around the 10 elliptical rooflights could not have been achieved in a metal standing seam system without increasing the risk of water ingress in the future. The ALKORGREEN  roof system, when used alongside the other two products, also helps to bring further aesthetic dimension to the building.”
He continued, “Due to the tight schedule and accessibility issues caused by the protected trees within the college grounds, we felt that the RENOLIT system would be the most suitable due to the speed with which it could be installed in addition to its easy on-site manoeuvrability. As such, the roofing stage could be completed on time, helping to keep the entire project on schedule and within the proposed completion timeframe.”
