All that glitter is not copper

At the small village of Houten in the Netherlands, situated at the banks of the Rietplas (Reed Pond) 18 beautiful new 'watervillas' have been constructed. They received the remarkable name 'Rietmeesters' (Reed masters), the facades being very nicely lined with water reed. The slightly sloping roofs shine bright like copper. This could have been real copper, ..but it is not! It's just another RENOLIT synthetic waterproofing realisation.

Upon special demand of the owners of the villas, the roofs have been covered with the RENOLIT METALLICS copper-coloured roofing membrane with a copper standing seam finishing. The project implies no less than 1,800 m² of roofing membrane and as many linear metres of large ALKORDESIGN profiles. For aesthetic reasons the architect opted for an invisible rainwater drainage by means of extra deep gutters and integrated downpipes. Remarkably, the roofing membrane could only be installed after applying  the reed sidings in order to avoid water infiltration into the reed facade. The roofing membrane has been glued onto a wood board protecting the reed. Afterwards, the roof edge has been nicely covered with aesthetic aluminium panels. Roof installer HDO Dakbedekkingen, traditionally a bitumen roofing installation company, has taken a new turn in the past few years and now also specialises in synthetic membranes.
